The CIW JavaScript Specialist certification exam is a standalone certification from CIW with the exam code 1D0-435.

The CIW JavaScript Specialist certification is proof of a person's competence across a spectrum of skills including the implementation and maintenance of hypertext-based Web sites using authoring and scripting languages; creating of web content; use of web management tools and digital media tools; and the application of human-factor principles to design.

This certification is a pre-requisite for the CIW JavaScript Specialist exam, which if passed earns the individual the CIW JavaScript Specialist certification. Candidates who also have the CIW Perl Specialist certification and the CIW Database Design Specialist certification earn the advanced CIW Web Development Professional certification in addition.

What is the exam registration fee? 150
Where do I take the exam? The CIW exams are administered by Pearson VUE and Prometric at testing centers worldwide.
What is the format of the exam? This test consists of multiple-choice questions.
What are the pre-requisites of the exam? While there are no official prerequisites to take the certification, both CIW and uCertify strongly recommend that the candidate should be familiar with using the Internet, developing Web pages and configuring networks to a level consistent with that found in the CIW Web Foundations series. Knowledge of X/HTML code development is also required. CIW also reports that they find that candidates who have taken the CIW Web Foundations Associate, CIW Web Design Specialist and CIW E-Commerce Specialist courses and exams fare better than those without these certifications.
How many questions are asked in the exam? The exam contains 55 questions.
What is the duration of the exam? 90 minutes
What is the passing score? 75%
What is the exam's retake policy?

In the event that you fail your first attempt at passing the CIW Javascript Specialist Certification exam, CIW's retake policy is:

  • If a candidate fails a CIW exam on his or her first attempt, a 24-hour waiting period is required between the first and second sittings of that CIW exam.
  • Candidates who fail the second attempt at a CIW exam are required to wait for a period of no fewer than thirty calendar days from the date of the previous sitting before any third or subsequent sitting of the same CIW exam.
  • If a candidate passes a CIW exam, the candidate will not be allowed to retake that CIW exam.
What is the validity of the certification? CIW certifications have no expiration. The certification holder is certified for life unless the vendor changes their policy. Click here for more information.
